Many Churches, One Easter Sunrise Celebration

For local churches, Easter is one of the religious high points of the year. It’s also one of the biggest days for church donations with giving increasing as much as 50%. So what would motivate local churches to sacrifice much needed donations to join together on Easter? The answer could be to pursue a higher purpose… to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead through Easter Together.

Easter Together, the community sunrise service in San Clemente, has gathered thousands of believers in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ since the mid-1990’s. Originally starting at San Gorgonio Park, it has now become an annual tradition and one of the longest running community sunrise services in South Orange County. Each year local pastors share the responsibilities that include marketing, hospitality, preaching, music, greeting and finances.

Boogie Rose, pastor of Branches in Dana Point and an early influencer of Easter Together said

“It was wonderful to come together around the essential matter: Jesus Christ our Lord is risen indeed, and that is something we not only agree on, but could fully put our hearts into.”

Ron Sukut, pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in San Clemente said

“We were all struck by the challenge and sacrifice of coming together but unanimously believed God would be glorified, believers would be unified and souls would be drawn to Jesus as a result of our effort.”

Roger Gales, pastor of Heritage Christian Fellowship in San Clemente said

“Easter is the biggest day of the year for Christians because we’re celebrating the day Jesus proved He was God come to Earth as a human. Celebrating in unity together is perhaps the best way to honor what God did on that day.”

Chris Smith, pastor of Southcoast Church International said

“God never intended His church to go it alone and times like these bring us together to remind us, to strengthen our bonds with one another and to declare to the world around us that we are united in purpose, serving the Risen Savior Jesus Christ!”

Holland Davis, pastor of Calvary Chapel San Clemente said

“Jesus said that the world would know that we are followers of Jesus by our love for one another. Easter Together is not only a declaration of our love for one another, but it’s a declaration that we are followers of Jesus Christ who is alive and desires to show His love to every person in San Clemente.”

The very first Easter Sunrise Service in the United States was started by Frank Miller at Mt. Rubidoux (Riverside, CA) in 1908. Since then, millions of Christian followers have celebrated the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ in Sunrise Services across America. Easter Together is a community event that reflects the values of diverse groups of people working together which makes San Clemente such a great place to live. The highpoint of Easter Together was 2011 with over 4000 in attendance. Today Easter Together continues to draw over 500 Christians from South Orange County Churches. This year’s participating churches include St. Michael’s Charismatic Episcopal Church, Heritage Christian Fellowship, Cornerstone Community Church, Southcoast Church International and Calvary Chapel San Clemente.

Easter Together is being held 6:30 am April 5 at the Vista Hermosa Sports Park located at 987 Avenida Vista Hermosa, San Clemente, CA. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets and to dress warm. For more information visit eastertogether.com.
