Here are some main events going on this week in San Clemente for Easter:
St. Clement’s by the Sea Episcopal Church invites the community to “Tenebrae, A Service of Shadows,” at 7 p.m., 202 Avenida Aragon. Admission is free, though goodwill offerings will be accepted, the church says. Call 949-492-3401.
San Clemente’s Seaside Senior Center is offering a traditional Easter dinner for the public at noon at the Community Center, Avenida Del Mar at Calle Seville. Doors will open at 11 a.m. for festivities that will include an Easter bonnet parade, door prizes and music by Harold’s Southcoast Dixie Jazz Band. Suggested donation is $4. Reservations are requested. Tickets are available at the senior center, 242 Avenida Del Mar. Call 949-498-3322.
Talega Life Church invites the public to a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. on the beach beside the San Clemente Pier. If you arrive early, you can watch Jay Bellamy create a sand sculpture of Jesus on the cross, starting at noon. “I’m going to be baptized that day, just before the service,” Bellamy said.
San Clemente’s Recreation Department invites everyone to Springtacular, a yearly event at San Gorgonio Park featuring egg hunts, a puppet parade, exotic animals, games, crafts, entertainment and a Kiwanis pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. at 2916 Via San Gorgonio. Admission is free, though the breakfast and some items involve a fee. Call 949-361-8264.
• Six area churches will come together Easter morning at Richard T. Steed Memorial Park, 247 Avenida La Pata, in a tradition that started in 2008. The idea is to forgo meeting individually to come together as a large group to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, the churches say.
Everyone is welcome. The organizing churches are Branches in Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano, Cornerstone Community Church in San Clemente, Heritage Christian Fellowship in San Clemente, Shoreline Church of San Clemente, South Coast Church in San Clemente and Worship Life Calvary Chapel in San Clemente.
Services will be at 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. and will offer coffee and baked goods, a large tent with kids’ activity books, a playground and music. Visit eastertogether.com.
